WHITE WINES OF VENETO

What are the best white wines of Veneto?

Among the most important is Soave, produced mainly from Garganega grapes. This wine is known for its freshness, elegance, and notes of white flowers and almonds. It has an ancient history dating back to the Romans and today offers excellent value for money.

Lugana, from the Lake Garda area, is another prominent wine. Produced from Trebbiano di Lugana grapes, it is characterized by a solid structure and complex aromas of peach and citrus. This wine also has deep historical roots, having been appreciated since the Middle Ages.

Bianco di Custoza is a lesser-known but equally interesting gem from Veneto. This blend of native varieties such as Trebbiano, Garganega, and Cortese offers fresh and fruity wines. Its production has ancient origins, but it is only recently that it has established itself as one of the most beautiful new white wines of Veneto and today represents an excellent choice for those seeking quality at affordable prices.

The most important appellations for Veneto white wines

The DOC Vicenza is one of the most interesting, with wines that offer unique complexity thanks to varieties such as Garganega, Pinot Bianco, and Chardonnay. Moving up into the hills, we find the Colli Euganei Bianco appellation, produced in the volcanic hills near Padua. It is known for wines with beautiful complexity and floral notes, often based on Garganega, Tai, and Sauvignon.

Then we have the DOC Lison, the border appellation located between Veneto and Friuli, which is another appellation not to be underestimated, famous for its wines based on Tai (Tocai Friulano), which offer notes of almond and white flowers.

Returning to the vicinity of Verona and the Lessini mountains, we find the DOC Gambellara, close to the Soave area, which produces excellent white wines based on Garganega, characterized by freshness and a pleasant minerality.

Finally, the DOC Delle Venezie, famous above all for its Pinot Grigio, offers fresh, fruity, and versatile wines, perfect for a wide range of food pairings.

Pairings: Tannico's recommendations

Soave, with its notes of white flowers and almonds, is perfect with grilled fish and seafood risottos. Lugana, rich in hints of peach and citrus, pairs beautifully with fish risottos, pasta with seafood, and fresh cheeses such as buffalo mozzarella. Bianco di Custoza, which is fresh and fruity, is ideal for light appetizers, summer salads, and chicken or turkey dishes. The white wines of the Gambellara appellation, with their minerality and freshness, are also excellent with raw fish, such as sushi and sashimi, or shellfish. Finally, Pinot Grigio from the Delle Venezie DOC, with its apple and pear aromas, is perfect for aperitifs, light fish dishes, and seafood salads. These pairings bring out the best in Veneto white wines, making every meal a unique and delicious experience.
