RED WINES FROM FRIULI VENEZIA GIULIA

Borderland: the charm of Friulian red wines

Friuli Venezia Giulia, a border region where Alpine, Central European, and Mediterranean influences meet, is fertile ground for red wines of extraordinary personality. Often overshadowed by Friuli's celebrated whites, the reds of this region reveal character, elegance, and a freshness that perfectly reflects the identity of the territory. From the marly and sandy soils of the Colli Orientali to the limestone soils of the Carso, each bottle tells a different story about this complex wine-making identity.

Native varieties: treasures to be discovered

The beating heart of our selection is represented by the native grape varieties that express the most authentic soul of Friuli. Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso, with its notes of dark fruits, spices, and characteristic herbaceousness, finds excellent interpretations in the labels of Zaglia and Ronc dal Diaul. Schioppettino, saved from extinction, produces wines of extraordinary finesse with its unmistakable peppery notes, as demonstrated by the versions from Arzenton and Dri Roncat. There is no shortage of refined expressions of the rare Pignolo di Ronchi di Cialla and the characteristic Terrano di Parovel with its unmistakeable iron mark.

Bordeaux wines with a Friulian twist

The Friulian tradition is also expressed through local interpretations of international grape varieties, particularly Merlot and Cabernet. Thanks to the region's unique soil and climate, these wines develop a distinctive identity, characterized by elegance, freshness, and a refined tannic structure. From the Merlot of Villa Russiz to the blends of Livio Felluga or Schiopetto, these labels demonstrate the excellence achieved by Friulian producers in interpreting Bordeaux grape varieties, confirming Friuli as one of the most versatile and fascinating wine regions in Italy.
