ALSACE RED WINES

The surprise of Pinot Noir in a land of whites

Our selection of Alsace red wines is a fascinating discovery for enthusiasts, revealing the lesser-known side of a region famous throughout the world for its extraordinary aromatic whites. In this enchanting territory, nestled between the Vosges and the Rhine, where Germanic and French influences blend, Pinot Noir – locally known as Pinot Noir or Spätburgunder – finds an expression of surprising finesse and elegance. Thanks to the semi-continental climate with hot, dry summers, the calcareous, marly and granitic soils, and the protection from cold winds offered by the Vosges mountain range, this delicate grape variety develops a unique character here, distinguished by an aromatic brightness and structural precision that in recent decades have reached increasingly high levels of quality, thanks in part to the effects of climate change, which has favoured better ripening of the grapes.

From Alsace Rouge to Grand Cru: an evolving production

Although they account for only about 10% of Alsace's wine production, red wines are experiencing an extraordinary renaissance. Our collection ranges from the more accessible Alsace Rouge labels, characterised by freshness and immediate fruitiness, to the more ambitious interpretations of individual vineyards and Grand Cru – a designation traditionally reserved for whites but which, since 2011, can also be used for Pinot Noir in specific terroirs. These elite wines from prestigious crus such as Hengst, Vorbourg or Kirchberg di Barr reveal surprising complexity and ageing potential. Each bottle tells the story of visionary producers who believed in the potential of Alsatian Pinot Noir, often adopting organic and biodynamic practices to maximise the expression of the terroir and favouring respectful vinification methods that preserve the aromatic delicacy typical of the grape variety.

A distinctive profile: elegance and versatility at the table

Alsace reds are distinguished by a unique stylistic profile that sets them apart from both Burgundy Pinot Noirs and New World interpretations. Their bouquet is characterised by delicate notes of red fruits (cherry, raspberry, wild strawberry), floral nuances of violet and peony, and a characteristic spicy vein, all supported by vibrant freshness and silky tannins. The structure is generally lighter and more graceful than in other regions, with an aromatic transparency that faithfully reflects the different nuances of the Alsatian terroir. This elegance makes them extremely versatile at the table, ideal for accompanying traditional Alsatian dishes such as coq au Riesling and choucroute, but also white meats, poultry, mushroom-based dishes and soft cheeses. Our collection offers the opportunity to explore these little oenological gems, which represent one of the most interesting expressions of Pinot Noir in Europe, capable of surprising even the most demanding palates with their refinement and territorial authenticity.
