RIESLING

If wines were works of art, Riesling would be a masterpiece of Impressionism - capturing light, time, and place with extraordinary precision. While other grape varieties might whisper their origins, Riesling shouts them from the mountaintops, whether they're the dizzying slate slopes of the Mosel or the sun-baked hills of Clare Valley.

What makes Riesling truly remarkable is its ability to defy time. While most white wines are best enjoyed in their youth, great Rieslings can age for decades, transforming like literary characters in a novel. Their youthful citrus and stone fruit notes evolve into a complex tapestry of honeycomb, toast, and the infamous "petrol" note - a characteristic so distinctive that it has its own scientific compound name: 1,1,6-trimethyl-1,2-dihydronaphthalene, or TDN.

The grape's extraordinary acidity acts as a natural preservative, allowing it to develop in bottle while maintaining incredible freshness. This same acidity enables Riesling to achieve something nearly impossible in the wine world: perfect balance at any sweetness level. From bone-dry GG (Großes Gewächs) wines to the intensely concentrated Trockenbeerenauslese, where each grape is individually selected after being affected by noble rot, Riesling never loses its sense of place or purity.

Climate change has added an unexpected twist to Riesling's story. Once struggling to achieve ripeness in cool German valleys, these sites are now producing some of the most elegant dry wines in the world. Meanwhile, new Riesling frontiers are emerging in unexpected places - from New York's Finger Lakes to high-altitude vineyards in Argentina's Salta.

The wine's chameleon-like nature makes it a sommelier's secret weapon. Its laser-sharp acidity and complex aromatics can handle everything from fiery Thai curries to rich pâtés. In fact, many consider it the ultimate food wine, as comfortable with a plate of fresh oysters as it is with a spicy Indian feast.

Perhaps most fascinating is Riesling's relationship with noble rot (Botrytis cinerea). Under perfect conditions, this "noble" fungus shrivels the grapes, concentrating sugars and acids while adding layers of honey and apricot complexity. The resulting wines, particularly the rare Eiswein - harvested while frozen on the vine - can last for generations, becoming liquid history.

Our collection spans the entire Riesling spectrum, from the mineral purity of the Mosel to the powerful expressions of Alsace, from Australian sunshine in a glass to New World innovations. Each bottle tells its own story of place, time, and human dedication to this most noble of grapes.
