Australia

A new world with deep roots

Australia represents a fascinating oenological paradox: a New World country with over 200 years of wine-growing history, it has managed to build a unique identity by combining a scientific approach to viticulture with a deep respect for the terroir. From the historic pre-phylloxera vineyards of the Barossa Valley to the cool maritime climates of Margaret River, from the volcanic soils of Coonawarra to the high altitudes of Adelaide Hills, Australia's enormous geographical and climatic diversity allows for the cultivation of a wide range of grape varieties that express distinctive and recognizable characteristics, balancing the typical generosity of the fruit with a growing search for elegance and complexity.

Shiraz, Cabernet, and surprising whites

While Shiraz (the local name for Syrah) remains the emblem of Australian viticulture, with its powerful, spicy, and velvety wines, the landscape is much more varied: Cabernet Sauvignon from Coonawarra, with its menthol notes and elegant structure; the Bordeaux blends of Margaret River; the Pinot Noir of Tasmania and the Yarra Valley; and then the increasingly refined whites, such as the mineral Chardonnay from cooler regions, the dry and sharp Riesling from Clare Valley, and the Semillon from Hunter Valley, capable of surprising evolutions. Finally, there is no shortage of experimentation with Mediterranean varieties such as Grenache, Tempranillo, and Sangiovese.

Between giants and visionary artisans

Our selection highlights both the historic wineries that have defined the Australian style around the world and the small producers who are exploring new approaches to winemaking, with increasingly less invasive interventions and a growing focus on sustainability. From the concentrated power of South Australia's iconic wines to the elegance of Victoria and Tasmania's cool climate wines, we offer a comprehensive journey through a dynamic and ever-evolving wine industry that has managed to reinvent itself without losing its soul, combining the generous and sunny character of Australian fruit with a renewed search for finesse and balance.
