CHÂTEAU BRANE-CANTENAC

What we know today as Château Brane-Cantenac was born at the beginning of the 17th century, and the, back then, small property was known as "Domaine Guilhem Hosten". Already at the time however, it was a winery famous for the quality of the wines it produced, among the most popular and the most expensive in the entire French region of Bordeaux.
In 1883 the Baron of Brane, also known as "Napoleon of the Vineyards", bought the castle, after selling what is now called Château Mouton Rothschild. Subsequently, in 1838, the same baron renamed the property, adding next to the family name the one that identified the area where the vineyards were, effectively giving life to the "Château Brane-Cantenac".
Later, it passed first into the hands of the Roy family, then it was acquired in 1920 by the “Société des Grands Crus de France”. The Château was most recently taken over by François Lurton, whose descendants still own the property.
Extending over a vineyard area that covers a total of about 75 hectares, the estate grows grapes of cabernet sauvignon, merlot, cabernet franc and carménère: all the plants are cultivated with the utmost respect for what is the balance of the environment, ecosystem, nature, and biodiversity. On soils of various compositions, rich in sand, clay, limestone and iron, from harvest to harvest, healthy and precious clusters are collected, straightforward and concentrated in all their organoleptic nuances.
In the cellar, using the most modern oenological technologies without ever overriding the most rooted traditions, each production step is rigorously monitored, constantly pursuing the highest possible quality standards.
This way, the labels of the “Château Brane-Cantenac” were born: wines with strong and yet elegant personality, as well as a faithful mirror of what is the highest essence of Bordeaux, of the Médoc area and of Margaux in particular.
