CHÂTEAU COS D'ESTOURNEL

Château Cos d'Estournel, originated in 1811 with the acquisition by Louis-Gaspard d'Estournel, its name " Cos", meaning "gravel hill", takes after the undulating terrain of the North Médoc. The winery has changed owners several times since 1852, and in 1869 the Spanish Errazu family took over, remaining at the head of the Château for about 20 years, when it was acquired by the Bordeaux Hostein. In 1855 the Château was included in the official classification of Bordeaux wines as 2ème Grand Cru Classé, one of the fifteen Deuxièmes Crus, and from there began its success story. Through the marriage of Marie-Thérèse Hostein with Louis-Victor Charmolue, former owner of Château Montrose, French control was consolidated at the head of the winery, which then continued with the Ginestet family in 1917, entering the “Domaines Prats”. The current owner is Michel Reybier, also owner of the famous Château Montelena located in Napa Valley. Considered from the beginning one of the flagship châteaux of the wine-growing area surrounding Saint-Estèphe and the Left Bank, it’s never stopped innovating and refining its style, always looking to the future with the stimulus of new challenges. Today the vineyard unfolds over a total area of 100 hectares, for an annual production of 32,000 cases. Cabernet sauvignon is the protagonist for 2/3 of the total vineyards, accompanied by plots cultivated with merlot, petit verdot cabernet franc. The new cellar, a marvel in terms of architecture and design, is one of the area's references for innovation aimed at simplification through the wise and measured use of new technologies. A winery rich in history, which today gives birth to four labels: the Cos D'Estournel, in red and white version, and the "second" wine, called "Les Pagodes de Cos", which brings together the grapes from the youngest vines. Labels that will continue to amaze us, with their unmistakable style and their unstoppable evolution.
