Chianti DOCG “Castiglioni” 2023 - Frescobaldi

Intense red, clear with violet reflections. The bouquet offers intense dominant fruity notes of strawberry and raspberry which blend harmoniously with floral aromas of roses and sweet almond desserts. On the palate it is balanced and musty. The finish is persistent with a marked correspondence between the bouquet and the taste.

Throughout the meal, it pairs well with tasty dishes such as pappardelle with meat ragout, but also roast chicken, beef strips with vegetables and some medium aged cheeses.

Castiglioni, which has been owned by the family since as far back as the 11th century, is the centre of wine production of the Frescobaldi family which has been going on since the end of the thirteen hundreds. The estate extends along the old Via di Castiglioni built by the Romans to connect northern Tuscany with Rome, the eternal city. The area was already famous in those times for the high quality of the harvests and for centuries it was the centre of intense traffic and the preferred location for building luxurious Roman villas. To the south-west of Florence, in the Val di Pesa, the area is ideal for growing the elegant Sangiovese, but also robust vivacious Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. All the vineyards of the estate enjoy a warm dry micro-climate with afternoon breezes that arrive from the Tyrrhenian Sea. Here the grapes ripen more quickly and completely, giving the wines intensely fruity notes, marked suppleness and refined structure. Chianti Castiglioni perfectly reflects these characteristics with suppleness on the palate. It is in fact a pleasantly fruity red wine with a strong well-defined personality.
